WEEQUAHIC PARK MATINEE

Weequahic Park, Newark, N. J., September 15, 1956—Mrs. Ann Norejko, making her season's debut as a driver in the amateur harness racing series here, won four of the eight heats contested to take down half of the afternoon's racing program. A mere male, Johnny Cameron, drove the winners of the two other races.
The gentlemen drivers and their trotters were easy prey for the blond, 25 year old Mineola, L. I., horsewoman in the first event. Driving the four year old bay Sheraton mare, Lauradel, she reached the wire unchallenged in 2:18, returning later in the afternoon to win the¬second dash just as easily in 2:202/5.

There was more of a struggle to her victory in the third event, a race for both trotters and pacers. Driving her three-year old trotting gelding Dial Bonnie, Mrs. Norejko caught the pacer Hobo Vic, driven by John Cameron, at the three eighths, raced stride for stride with her rival to the half, and then pulled off to a comfortable five length lead which she maintained to the wire. The first heat was clocked in 2:12. In their second outing Mrs. Norejko's purple and red colors showed in front at the start. At the half she was still out in front by five lengths, which was also the margin at the finish. Dial Bonnie, a daughter of Sun DialBonnie Kalmuck, trotted the second mile in 2:104/5.

Cameron accounted for the two remaining races. He won the second with the two year-¬old brown son of Tar HeelLittle Patsy, Hobo Tomlen. The youngster paced the first trip in 2:213/5, and came back in 2:222/5. His second winner was with the veteran racing mare, the trotter Sharon Return by Due Return. The seven year old winner of more than $17,000 turned the half mile strip in 2:224/5 in the opening mile and trotted back in 2:202/5 in the second trip.
