Born Anthony Florian Zaleski in Indiana.  He fought three fights against Rocky Graziano, the last was held in Ruppert Stadium on June 10, 1948.  In that fight Zale knocked Graziano out in the third round to become the third boxer to regain the middle weight title (from Rocky Graziano, which he had lost a year earlier).
